It’s been a busy few months for BC Insulators Union Local 118 Officers, with Business Manager Lee Loftus, President Garrett Gronick, Vice-President Neil Munro and Recording Secretary Bob Barter all attending our union’s 51st Canadian Conference meeting in Montreal.
Thanks go out to Local 58 for hosting this year’s event. A new slate of Canadian Conference officers and trustees were elected and the issues of each Local were discussed.
A key committee on Harmonization of the Red Seal trade qualification across Canada was struck to ensure that the Insulators’ point of view is properly represented to the Federal Government. Locals across the country are busy and the outlook is positive.
And the BC Insulators Union was also well represented at this year’s Labour Day, hosted by the New West District Labour Council at Holland Park in Surrey.
The event was a big success with a large turnout of members, politicians, and the public in spite of the intense heat.
Local 118’s Labour Day Committee was there: Garrett Gronick, Ashley Duncan, Riley Feser-Gray, Justin Teskey, and Neil Munro. Also on hand to help out were Greg Stuart, Al Carpenter and Derek Van Dyke.
The event was very positive and there was a lot of good conversation while we were promoting our trade and the union movement. We hope to see similar enthusiasm for next year’s event.
