On March 7th, 2007, an overloaded van rolled over while taking farmworkers to work. In the accident three workers died while others were injured. We remember Sukhvinder Kaur Punia, Amarjit Kaur Bal and Sarabjit Kaur Sidhu, who died in the accident.
Since this tragic incident, the BC Federation of Labour has worked with the families to highlight health and safety issues for farmworkers, including an installation of the Golden Tree Monument. It stands in memory of all farmworkers killed or injured on the job.
