Retirees Lunch

Wednesday, December 6th was our Retirees lunch, and it was extra special as our current Business Manager, Lee Loftus, is also becoming a retiree!

We heard wonderful words from incoming Business Manager, Neil Munro, as well as Rod Mickleburgh, who recently published a book called “On The Line: A History of the BC Labour Movement”. The Insulators even have a photo in it from when we were on strike in 1971!

From On The Line “As early as 1971, concerned about growing evidence of the serious health risk posed by asbestos, members of the Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers led a wildcat strike over the presence of asbestos at the Pacific Centre construction site in downtown Vancouver.”

There will also be a cheque presented to Servants of Hope Society. Every year Brother Stan Tessman would do the honour of taking the cheque, but he sadly is no longer with us. Years ago, Stan’s brother Tom requested we help with his campaign to feed those who were in need for Christmas, and we are pleased to continue to be part of this undertaking.

The following Brothers received their pins:

Matthew Boos – 40 year

Lloyd Grandy – 50 year

Bill Halls Jr. – 50 year

Greg Hatch – 50 year

Dan Kirk – 50 year

Ernie Todd – 50 year

Bodo Vajen – 60 year

We’ll have more pictures of the event to follow in the next few days.

Congratulations to you all. We look forward to seeing you all next year and wish you all a Merry Christmas and happy holiday season.
