Members of Local 118 Equity Committee and Local 118 Business Manager Neil Munro Meet with Minister Qualtrough
Attempting to create real change, the Local 118 Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee is made up of union members of local 118 volunteering to help creating more space in our trade for people from underrepresented groups. We want to foster and grow inclusion, diversity, and equity in sustainable and meaningful ways, to see our membership grow to reflect the society we live in. Local 118 is proud to be third in our category for registered women apprentices, at 15% in 2022, which is far higher than the industry average.
With the first formal equity committee being formed in 2022, we are excited to see so many of our members support this initiative and to be proud of our some of our achievements so far. It is true that it will take a committed and enthusiastic committee AND a supportive membership to reach our goals.
One of the perks of joining volunteer committees is the access to educational opportunities. We will make efforts to ensure some of the educational opportunities and the meetings are accessible to members from all regions of BC, through a combination of online and in-person courses and meetings.
If you are a member of Local 118 who is interested in this volunteer committee, please contact the union.
